Summer Lovin'

Last weekend we were lucky enough to be invited to 'Future Cinema presents Grease' on Barnes Common, and we were even luckier to be blessed with amazing weather (I can't imagine Danny's hair is particularly weatherproof)! So we squeezed into our disco pants and pencil skirts and enrolled at Rydell High for the day.

Whilst I was expecting a clearer identity to the event (the various attractions were merely tents with signs on, bearing little to no resemblance to the famous Grease carnival), I was impressed with the level of commitment the attendee's made to the dress code. There were all kinds of Pink Ladies and T-Birds, which made the whole event a lot more believable.

Attractions were limited to a few hot dog stands, a couple of live music tents and one or two rides... A bit of an anti climax to my previous Future Cinema experience at Wilderness Festival (see review). However we managed to time our Ferris Wheel trip perfectly, ensuring us the best seats in the house for 'Grease Lightning'.

And it was the film that saved the night. There is a real difference between watching a film at a conventional cinema, to watching it out in the open air whilst thousands of die hard fans sing and dance along to every hit. It was addictive, and I don't even like musicals.

The night didn't end when the movie did, but in all honesty that was the real highlight of the event. Even with the slight disappointment over the other attractions, it was well worth a visit, if not just to enjoy a great film under the stars.

Zara AW12

We're huge fans of Zara here at The Wolves and we're so excited to see what they have to offer for AW12. The new collection is looking amazing, and we're absolutely IN LOVE with Freja Beha in the new campaign!!

So summer has been a washout, but at least that means we can dust off our wooly jumpers a little bit sooner :) Here's a teeny tiny sample of current favs...

Roll on payday.

(p.s. sorry for the delay in the next mini collection, we promise it will be with you shortly!)

Wolves in the Wilderness 2012

We had an exciting opportunity last week to work with Future Cinema on their Wilderness takeover project. If I'm totally honest with you I'd never heard of Wilderness before, so I wasn't too excited when we were given tickets for the weekend... How wrong I was!!

The best word to some up Wilderness is 'magical'. Set in the beautiful rolling hills of Cornbury Park the atmosphere was very 'Mid Summer Nights Dream'. There were mermaids floating on the lake, a band of tuba playing foxes, and naked ladies roaming the festival on white horses. Most of the time you didn't know where to look.

Anyway, on the first night we were taken back to the 1920's with the Bugsy Malone takeover. Think Boxing Rings and Can Can Girls.

This is when we first discovered the Wilderness downfall... everything shuts down VERY early. You're sort of left high and dry by 2:00pm, bar a few piano playing hippies on hay bails. The only way round this is to start early, so on day two we cracked open the wine by lunch time whilst we sat by the lake (complete with waterfall) in the sunshine.

On day three Future Cinema put on the classic 'La Haine' accompanied by 'The Asian Dub Foundation'. It was absolutely amazing and I highly recommend you catch a screening when they bring it to London.

All in all it was an amazing weekend. Perhaps due to the lack of bands I wanted to see and the premature closing time, it's not something I would pay for, especially whilst Secret Garden Party and Bestival are still going strong. But if you're in to your smaller indie festivals or for a great alternative family trip, Wilderness is definitely worth a visit. Expect big things for this little festival in the near future.
